thanks daniel - actually i'm running tiger (10.4.11) - its just QS
which updated. i'll play around with it - at the moment i've gotten
almost used to using F12 - i'd rather use F1 but i don't want to have
to use my function key everytime i want to adjust screen brightness,
volume etc...
let me know if you have any ideas about why this functionality would
be discontinued without notice.
cheers.
