Also, what is the name extension of the compressed file?  If it
includes something like .bz2 or . cpgz after the .dmg part, remove
everything after .dmg and then try double-clicking on it. Sometimes
when Safari downloads the file, it messes up the file extension bit.
I'm not really sure why
