Try this: Open QS's preferences, choose the Preferences tab at the top, and then Command in the sidebar. Make sure that Spacebar behaviour is not set to Switch to Text Mode, and make sure that Switch to Text Mode if No Match is Found is deactivated.
If that doesn't work, then go to the Triggers tab and select Quicksilver from the sidebar. Either deactivate the Command Window in Text Mode trigger, or else edit the trigger to use a different key combination.
