Unfortunately that didn't work either. Brings up "spotlight" - changed
the system prefs to stop spotlight, then it does nothing
(understandably). Reinstalled QS another time, set the hotkey to
⌘Space and now it beeps again.

It's probably me ;o) - I might just wait till I understand this
machine a little more before trying again. Unless you can think of
anything obvious.
