unbelievable this perennial problem that we all have with mysterious popping windows. my solution has been to attach them to the side of my desktop where they only pop out on demand. keep in mind this does not seem to play well with spaces but they will stay out of the way.
i have not yet upgraded to 10.5.7 but can confirm that this problem occurs without the upgrade intermittently. i suggest a big prize to whoever cracks this with a permanent solution.
