I'm not familiar with gnome-terminal, but it sounds like it is
interfering with the normal input capture methods on Mac OS X. What
happens if you change Quicksilver's activation shortcut to something
else, such as ⌘⌥↩ (command-option-return), and then set ⌘Space to
activate the Spotlight menu in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the
Keyboard system preference pane? Does QS work with the new shortcut,
and does ⌘Space work to activate Spotlight?
