I hate the web-based forum interface, if that’s what you mean. Here’s an 
obscure note from the wiki that you had little hope of ever running across. :)

“Google Groups can be used via the web interface, or they can be used like a 
mailing list. To subscribe to the mailing list, send a message to 
[email protected] from the address you want to 
subscribe with.”

Needless to say, this is how I use the group.
