I have load previews enabled in the prefs, and I don't get the crash.

It may be that you still have too many items in your catalog. Have a look in
the catalog prefs and see you're not indexing too many files (I have, for
example ~100 files indexed).

If you want a way of searching for all the files on your Mac like spotlight
can do, then you can install the spotlight module to search from within
Quicksilver
