That's correct, I can't change anything within the Catalog preference pane (besides selecting and deselecting plugins' catalogs). I think you may have missed what I meant, though; when I click on the + button at the bottom of that window, nothing happens, nothing pops up that says 'Add Folder' or anything. Thus, I can't search anything besides what's indexed by the Airport, Address Book, iTunes, Keychain, or Mail modules (to be explicit). This includes, most noticeably, anything accessed via Finder (no files or anything show up in results).
