If it was still working under 10.6, then I think we should make the new version 
of both plug-ins 10.7+ only. They mainly just fix things that broke under 10.7, 
so there's little benefit to 10.6 users (and it apparently breaks things).

That's because the new plug-in is now supplying the necessary details, but the 
actual connection is failing for some reason. I don't have a Gmail account, but 
I assume it uses authentication and SSL?
