I meant 1,000 - 5,000 items in total. There's currently no way of seeing the 
total number of items in the catalog (something we have in the pipeline) 
unfortunately.

Personally, I don't think I can fit more than a couple of thousand different 
'items' in my head, so searching for them straight from Quicksilver is not 
worth it for me. For files/documents, try just adding a few top level folders 
(like 'Documents' or 'Desktop') and using → to search into them
