There should be no trick. You should be able to have a notebook in the
first pane, select the action "Search notebook for..." in the second, enter
text in the third, and then Evernote should receive focus with a search for
the text. This works for me.

The search is activated in the frontmost Evernote window. If this is on
another desktop, make sure that you switch to the desktop containing the
Evernote window, or enable the automatic desktop switching in Mission
Control.

I just noticed there's a bug when all Evernote windows are closed and you
try to use the reveal or search actions. I'll fix that tomorrow and submit
an updated version to QS.
