I am both a new Quicksilver user and a new Mac user.

Can’t have one without the other. :-)

I have just installed Quicksilver 1.1.3. Plugin installation failed on
install. I also cannot get plugins to install via Quicksilver preferences.

I saw some problems yesterday, too. I think it’s just slowness with one of our hosting providers. It seems to be hit or miss, so the best I can recommend for now is just try again.

(No plugins will even display in Quicksilver preferences.)

This list also needs be be downloaded and might be timing out. Try clicking the circular “refresh” arrow at the bottom of the Plugins section in the preferences.

I just redownloaded the list and installed two plug-ins and it worked.

The Quicksilver change log says the most recent version is 1.2, but the
download page provides 1.1.3 for Mavericks.

The release notes will cover anything that’s been publicly released (as either a Developer Preview, Pre-Release, or Final Release). Right now, 1.2.0 is available as a pre-release, which is why you see it mentioned.

You can change the type of updates you get in Preferences → Extras, but I’d recommend staying on Final Releases until you get more comfortable with the new platform.
