Yes as Jon says it sounds like BetterSnapTool
<https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/bettersnaptool/id417375580?mt=12> is what
you want.

I use a combination of that and Afloat <http://afloat.en.softonic.com/mac>
for manipulating windows. BetterSnapTool lets you use shortcuts to resize
windows and position them wherever you like, whether a pre-defined position
or a bespoke one. Afloat lets you make windows 'sticky', so they stay on
the top layer even if you click another window behind them, or gives them
varying degrees of transparency.

I have these set up with the same modifier keys as I use for triggers that
involve a whole 'window' I'm working on, e.g. 'current document' triggers,
so you don't actually need to remember you're using a different programme
from QS.
