This is one thing that's always annoyed me with Quicksilver. I often get
the most ridiculous results when Quicksilver searches the entire path
instead of just the file name.

It doesn’t search the entire path.

For example, attached is one search where I type "ORB" looking for
/Applications/Orbis.app. Pretty simple, right, but I get a whole bunch of much weaker matches I'm guessing because the "o" "r" and "b" can be found in the full paths before the Orbis.app even though their file names are so
obviously less relevant.

Look closer. o, r, and b can all be found in the last path component (the file or folder’s name).

Anyone can see this is not right. And this is one of the better examples, often I have to scroll pages and pages because of this rule but I can't
show that in a screenshot.

If you type “orb” then select and open `Obris.app` once (*maybe* twice), the next time you type “orb”, it will be the first result. Ranks are pretty meaningless in a fresh installation, but it will learn.

In fact, I have “Show other results” set to “Never” because the first result is almost always the correct thing and I don’t want to see the other noise. If not, I can hit ↓ for more results.

I also use the TextStart ranker because it tends to be more in line with how my brain abbreviates things.

So, the short answer is just “Use it for a while”. The things you actually care about will get higher in the rankings pretty quickly.
