I mean look at the first result for "OR" for a better example. The

result is
/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app
There is absolutely no way you can logically say that's a better match
for
"or" than
/Applications/Orbis.app
Again, this is probably because you’ve launched Activity Monitor using
Quicksilver a few times, but not Orbis. And there are other factors that
influence rank, but I don’t know them all.
I understand training and have been using Quicksilver since the
Jitkoff
days, but to train you need to be able to reasonably find the item the
first time around in catalogs that can contain hundreds or thousands
of
items. "or" to find /Applications/Orbis.app should be an easy match,
it
turns into a huge hassle when I want to find something that's actually
hard
which is why I'm making this post.
That’s exactly the situation the “Assign Abbreviation…” action
was created for. Do a long search you never want to do again to make the
thing easy to find in the results, then call “Assign
Abbreviation…”. Next time, it should be very high (if not first)
when you simply type the abbreviation.
I've always used Quicksilver a fraction of as much as I should because
of this and assumed the string ranker was going to be improved but 8
years later it definitely hasn't (though I will say Textstart is an
improvement and I don't understand why it's not the default until a
better one can be made).
Don’t over-estimate the influence of string rankers. They’re only
part of the total rank, and are really most useful as a tie breaker when
things are otherwise ranked equally.
I agree TextStart should be the default.
