Best as I can tell, it works perfectly with KDE. Of course, I didn't compile KDE linking to the gamin fam.h header and libs, but if what the developer says is true (no reason to believe otherwise) than it should be fine. KDE started up normally and the gam_server daemon started up when KDE started (daemon owned by user "randy").
