revert to static /dev in LFS and forget about HAL/D-BUS.
The only problem with your proposal is that Udev/hotplug seems to work
for everyone (it certainly does work for me), but no one seems to be
having any luck with HAL/D-Bus... Reverting to a static /dev because no
one seems to be able to get HAL/D-bus working is like reverting to a
horse and cart because you cannot get your car stereo working... ;)
I think the proper solution would be to do some serious debugging and
find out what info is going where with D-bus and HAL and to find out why
nothing seems to be doing anything with said info.
