That was my point. If you want bitstream, ask for it. Otherwise, here's
a prettier dejavu font. :)
But if you just want to ask for Bitstream Vera fonts, it doesn't have
to be in fonts.conf. If you can tell an application that you want a
specific font, you can tell it to use Bitstream Vera. For a generic
font name, it's pointless since DejaVu is the *exact* same font.

Looks like another good reason to not clobber bitstream.
Again, it doesn't need to be in fonts.conf for this to happen. You
can install any font and have it referred to by name. The things in
fonts.conf are only for generic family matching and other tweaks.
