1.0.18 works great for me. Funny, but I've been using the udev rules
included in the package and it's been working with no problems here.
I don't know if you're up to it, Miguel, but if you'd like to take a
stab at creating a patch for the book, that would be awesome and
greatly increase the chances of seeing this in the next version. I
don't have any capacity to test XSane. If you're interested, you can
check out the page I just put together on playing with the BLFS
