The fdi configuration is for the input devices only. When there's no
xorg.conf and multiple monitors, the server and driver use heuristics
to decide what the most useful output configuration is. Usually, I
think it attempts to clone the display across all active monitors with
the largest common mode. The nvidia drivers have their own system (I
think) which may not work exactly the same.
