> Virtualbox requires a multi-lib system to build the guest additions.

the last time i built vb i used 4.1.2-73507 (2011/8/15)

i built lfs with 32bit only but pae enabled and 3/1gb split. the system
has 16gb ram. with this configuration no box can get more than 3gb of
ram, but all my boxes run with 1 or 2gb, thus no problem.

the current 4.1.8 now supports either i386 or amd64.

quote from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads:
"Mixed installations (e.g. Debian/Lenny ships an AMD64 kernel with
32-bit packages) are not supported"

i read this as multilib is NOT supported.

quote from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Build_instructions
"To build, use the kmk command after you have entered our development
environment. This is the make command of kBuild, our homegrown build
system."

oracle uses an uncommon build system now. with the 4.1.2 i just could
use the standard make.

i probably will have some issues to build the new version...
