There are two possible connections: through VMware Tools or directly via usb.
If I use the former, printer works fine (not scanner, come back to this below),
the latter, jobs are sent but not printed until I disconnect this.

With VMTools:
$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0e0f:0003 VMware, Inc. Virtual Mouse
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub

With direct usb:
$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0e0f:0003 VMware, Inc. Virtual Mouse
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04b8:0838 Seiko Epson Corp. CX7300/CX7400/DX7400

However, to make the direct connection, first I get a warning:

> The specified device is claimed by another driver (usb-storage) on the host

So, any jobs I send, wait for disconnection of the printer from VM, so the host
reconnects and sends the jobs. Therefore, I will assume always the VMTools
connection, from here on.

Another information:

$ lspci | grep -i usb
02:00.0 USB controller: VMware USB1.1 UHCI Controller
02:03.0 USB controller: VMware USB2 EHCI Controller

Now, while I wait any idea from you, I am going to try and install xsane, and
report the result.

Finally, I should have said, but forgot, that this is not a LFS/BLFS problem:
it happens if the guest is *buntu and probably Arch, Gentooo (I remember I
tested with another guest, but can't remember which any more).
