Just for the record, I use the proprietary NVidia drivers because of my 
dual monitors.  I also found it useful when I was using my laptop.  It 
handled connections to a display projector well.

Installing the proprietary NVidia drivers is not difficult, but it needs 
to access the Linux source.  You just run 'sh NVIDIA-Linux-xxx.run' and 
answer a few relatively easy questions.
