I have no problems downloading from sourceforge with scripts and wget. 
Yes, they append "/download" to links so you have to strip that before 
saving, but thats it. Example:
wget 
http://sourceforge.net/projects/e2fsprogs/files/e2fsprogs/v1.42.5/e2fsprogs-1.42.5.tar.gz/download
 -O e2fsprogs-1.42.5.tar.gz
