The only thing I noticed is that bash is maintained at latest patch and
other packages are upgraded just to keep up to the latest. The way vim
is maintained is weird. So, I think, it was just a question of consistency.

Other distributions do regular updates. Having said that, I understand
it is a PITA to summarize individual patches to a(very) large single one.

For my personal use, I learned to use vim because it was the default
editor in LFS, and noticed that gvim is now my preferred, because it
keeps the terminal free for other uses.

For may use, I prefer just to apply individual upstream patches in
numerical order and had done that last week or so. But I decided
yesterday to produce an aggregated one for the book, just for
consistency sake and to save your time :-(

Anyway, after 7.4, if you wish, I can keep producing regular patches,
monthly, may be, for LFS/BLFS.
