Well, technically, one would just need a 64 bit kernel and fool the
build system using x86_64 (symlink to setarch) utility to build a 64 bit
cross compiler in pass1. But still to build a 64 bit kernel you need to
have a multilib capable compiler, which you couldn't build from pure
i686 LFS, at least not without using some hacks.
