I just noticed that KDE has released version 15.4.0 (2015, April, initial
release) . I reading about it I found:
https://dot.kde.org/2015/04/15/kde-applications-1504-adds-kde-telepathy-chat-and-kdenlive-video-editing
Buried in there was:
"Along with this release is KDE Workspaces 4.11.18 as part of the LTS version of
our Plasma 4 desktop which will end in August..."
and
"Half the applications have now been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 (KF5), bringing
the total to 72."
This raises the issue of how we should handle KDE in the future. If they are
ending support of KDE4 in August, that is before our next scheduled release in
September.
There are several questions that now arise.
1. Do we integrate kf5 into the book now? The systemd version has a KF5
section, but it is out of date.

2. Do we drop kde4? If so when? If we decide on a kf5 only strategy, should
we bother to update kde4 to 15.4.x in the development book?
There are some other apps, amarok and k3b, that are currently kde4 based. I
don't know if they have been updated to use kf5 or not.
I have not yet built kf5, but it looks like a big project. There are a lot more
packages involved than in kde4, but I would not include the section that has
instructions for individual frameworks packages.
Right now it is unclear if systemd is really required or if it can be worked
around.
Discussion welcomed.
