OK, obviously I didn't scroll down (or perhaps up) far enough.  ISTR
on at least one package we force -j1 in the instructions, so I took a
quick look at what was visible around the instructions and didn't
see anything (big text, small window).

But this is the first time I've seen this, 3.9.x was ok on all my
boxes.
