Well, the 3D test still works in from-source asymptote, and does indeed need the -V switch, but the 2D test now produces an empty PDF. It seems to have "decided" (at times like this, animism is attractive) that it will again put everything on one page, and therefore using the atbegshi package to suppress the first page now suppresses everything. So, the test now only works if I remove that package and its AtBeginDocument invocation. For the moment, I'm deferring attempts to fix that.
