Hi all,

OK. I'm not exactly following the books but use them as a reference in
case of trouble and therefore are rather close to them. And I completed
rebuilding my system yesterday. Therefore I can comment on a few packages:
chapter 13: apache-ant 1.10.3 1.10.5 #10896
apache-ant-1.10.5 works fine for me without further changes, well, besides
the one below(*).
chapter 24: intel-vaapi-driver 2.1.0 2.2.0 #10944
chapter 24: libva 2.1.0 2.2.0 #10944
Thanks for pointing me to those. Mine were outdated (1.8.2), so just I
rebuilt X for that now. vlc still ran fine with it without rebuild,
but output a new "unknown libva error" (/usr/lib/dri/i965_drv_video.so
has no function __vaDriverInit_0_32). Rebuilding vlc results in black
screen and "hardware accelerator failed to decode picture". Don't know
the cause yet, but this one is surely not working for me so far.
chapter 43: gimp 2.10.4 2.10.6 #11038
gimp-2.10.6 works fine here. Requires gegl>=0.4.8, but that's already
in the book.
I'm concerned about apache, jdk, fop, apache-ant as they are all java
related.
*) And consequently I had some trouble here. Which I realized when trying
to build apache-ant . OpenJDK certificates were not working because
/etc/ssl/java/cacerts.jks did not exist because make-ca obviously produces
pkcs12 in /etc/ssl/java/cacerts instead nowadays. What am I missing here??
I can make the apache-ant fetch/build work by just converting the
repository.jboss.org certificate from /etc/ssl/java/cacerts (pkcs12) to
/etc/ssl/java/cacerts.jks (jks), but I'm surely not expected to do that
manually!? I'm rather sure this is somehow addressed in BLFS, but I fail
to see where...
We need someone with intel video to do intel-vaapi-driver. I can do it, but
I'll have to start with a new LFS build on my laptop.
Using an i5-4670 and its graphics (HD 4600) here, but see above for va
drivers.
chapter 44: x264 20180819 daily #7555
I usually use the most recent version whenever updating, last was
x264-snapshot-20180821-2245-stable , *usually* without trouble. No
idea when this started, but with that version e.g. vlc needs (simple but
not sure if correct) patching due to "x264_bit_depth" not being available
anymore. There is ffmpeg and videolan.org discussion about that. Ken just
reported that too while I was typing.
chapter 13: rustc 1.25.0 1.28.0 #9168
rustc-1.28.0 works fine for me with a single change: "quiet-tests" is not
supported anymore. Commenting that line out let me compile and use it.
I did not investigate further consequences (of disabling quiet-tests).
chapter 17: alpine 2.21 2.21.999 #10188
The author tagged version 2.21.9999 back in June, see
http://repo.or.cz/alpine.git . No advantage taking it from there, but that
version already found its way to https://fossies.org/linux/misc/ .
Works fine for me without changes, though not on the maschine I usually
handle mails with.
chapter 10: librsvg 2.42.2 2.42.7 #10477
librsvg-2.42.7 works fine for me (e.g. in inkscape) without changes, as
did a couple of inbetween versions.
Regards
Uwe
