Hmm, I didn't have any problem with inkscape last week.
Confirmed, book instructions are good. This is a perfect example of why I
do not always speak up. If you are not discussing a problem, there is
probably none and it was just my fault. When I looked at the book
instructions, I was sure I tried that Unicode sed before (among others) -
it would have been my preferred solution - but the compiler kept
complaining. Difference: I only applied it to the variable in pdf-parser
and not also to the parameter in svg-builder. The upstream TODOs at the
point of failure in pdf-parser told me that they are aware of the issue
but it was not as trivial to fix properly and they considered just casting
the complaint away as "working but unclean" as I did. Book solution
preferred.
