Hello to all,

After being absent from the list for over a month due to an isp
outage, I have finally shed NTL and am back online with 'Esat BT' ,
now BT<something>. Are'nt you all glad to hear that :-)??

Unfortunately, whether it is a windows or a modem issue, I could not
talk to the Zyxel Prestige 623 modem I was supplied with via a nic.
It is talking under usb :-(. Hence my system has to be dragged into
the 21st century.

I have 4 usb ports (two with sockets), according to the manual.
Modprobing usb-uhci finds three usb master hubs,. That far I have got.
NTL had dhcp - this lot are using pppoe, and I have a <very stupid>
username and <extremely insecure & stupid> password. They are stored
in the modem which has a web interface. Kernels 2.4.22 and 2.6.10 are
available here. I don't even know where the usb devices show:
/proc/bus/usb shows the hubs. What form does ifconfig take to a usb
port? My LFS-3.3 has lsusb, but that onlty sees hubs.

Can someone give me the fool's guide to getting the rest of the way in
Linux? Please don't ask me to do web searches, as I have a backlog of
web searching for hardware data to get going on, and one son in
particular has a backlog of exam related sresearch to do.
