I agree, whole heartedly.
I don't think there could be a single BLFS tar ball, since there is no
single way to continue on from the base LFS system to a fully functional
system used for a specific purpose.
The purpose to which a system will be put kinda defines which parts from
the BLFS manual one would focus on.
For example when I put together my Web Server, I focused on those
componets that where needed to allow Apache, MySQL and PHP to run.
While I ignored almost everything to do with graphics and xwindows. By
back tracing the dependencies for the above packages I created the
custom list of packages I would need. This package is substantially
different from the package needed to build a Graphical desktop system.
