Yes, it is another machine, and the domain was the result of past experiments to find what worked for me and didn't cause local mail to go upstream. The box in question is a test backup server, but my "workstations" generate similar empty messages when they get around to rotating their logs. Thanks for your comments, this is not at all urgent, it's only just got to the point of annoying me enough to try to do something about it.
