I don't know of any type of dsl that isn't either PPPoE or--*very* rarely--PPPoA. Also, PPPoE has nothing to do w/ DHCP. My aDSL at home is PPPoE and I have a static IP address. I use the roaring penguin PPPoE software and that's where one configures the IP addressing stuff. It also handles setting up the default route if I'm not mistaken. I do not assign any addresses or anything to the ethernet card that connects to the DSL "modem". You can simply look at you dmesg output to see if your network cards are being loaded OK. Most modern (PCI) hardware is free of the ISA IRQ etc... hell :) Your case certainly could be different (i.e. you have PPPoA, or maybe some kind of unshackled dsl!) so you should use another computer to view the "setup help" portion of your ISP's web site as their tech might be clueless as well (they often are). ~Jason -- -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
