Yes, it build here too. The trouble was the two versions(iconv.h)coexisting on
my system.
I know libiconv is listed as dependencies for a few things where it
should not be, or they should reword the dependency. Gnome and AbiWord
at least list it, when it worse than not so.
Note this is not a BLFS mis-statement, just some package README's etc.
