The actual sound devices seem to be handled correctly (i.e. in 'audio') in the LFS rules, in my experience. [ using an ide dvd/cd on e.g. /dev/hdX for ripping or video can be a different matter ] Certainly, adding yourself to the audio group is a reasonable solution.
