This problem is finally solved on the 6.1.1-1 and later LiveCD's. Since we use XFCE we also setup XFCE Terminal, so now there is a helpful menu to copy/paste! Cuts down a lot on support questions. Even I forget how to copy/paste in xterm after a while.

It's never was a "problem"...more like a convenience issue. You always *could* paste to and from an xterm (at least, for the few months that I've been using linux :p)...just had to know how. I actually almost always paste between apps in X that way anyway (select text, middle-click mouse), because it's just faster.
