Hi,

After many months' procrastination I built a new lfs and am busy with
blfs. Frustratingly I cannot get dhclient to obtain a lease. Below is
the output from /etc/.../network start. The only thing I have different
from my present system (besides dhclient's version - 3.0pl2 at present
and the thing I've overlooked) is that the nic is now compiled into the
kernel rather than as a module. I have not put any firewall stuff up
yet and yes, I have packet socket compiled into the kernel
(kernel .config was taken directly from my present system with modules
compiled directly). I am admittedly a network klutz having never had
the inclination to figure out the nuts and bolts choosing instead to
forget about it once connectivity has been obtained - I don't even know
how to start debugging this. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Allard.

After this dhclient simply sits there as a smug deamon twiddling it's
thumbs and laughing at me.
