I did it and I still get problems. Here the results of dmesg:
----------
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.8
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2005 Intel Corporation
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200: ipw-2.4-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:01:02.0 failed with error -5
----------
Following http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/index.php#issues I changed also the
hotplug timeout to 100, but withouth results. Btw., hotplug is working, as I
can confirm plugging and unplugging the eth0 cable.
I unpacked ipw2200-fw-2.4.tgz ( suposed to be the firmware for ipw2200 Version
1.0.8) in /lib/firmware.
What else could I do ? I think, the problem is reduced to ipw2200 and
firmware, isn't it ? I mean, the firmware should load independent of
ieee80211 as an example ? although I installed also this package
Sorry for this extended issue and thanks for the help
