Hi all.
Since I coundn't compile KDE 3.5.2 due to a segfault of both mcopidl and
dcopidl when they are called by the build process, I've done the following :
- downloaded and booted the lfs live cd.
- deleted /bin /sbin /usr /lib from my old install.
- took back the book, and after many hours of compilation went back again with
a fully new lfs6.1.1 + blfs6.1 system.
This time, I followed point by point the book, just ignoring things relative
to /etc, since I wanted to keep the config files.
Of course, I didn't even touch /home, since it contains all my data.
All went fine, but I still have the same errors when I try to install KDE.
Since my working kernel was out of date, I've compiled the latest version
today, but things ar neither better nor worse. I just can't install KDE.
If I come to you, it is just because from this background, I've got few
questions.
Can the kernel affect things compiled during lfs and / or blfs ? I think not,
but an expert answer could be appreciated.
Could it be possible that packages provided by BLFS6.1 are too old to compile
KDE ?
Can I safely update packages provided by BLFS-svn over my existent ones, or
should I restart the overall process, begining with lfs again, and fall back
to blfs-svn ?
Last but not least :
when I erased all the previous files before installing the lfs, I hadn't see
that /opt contained a full gcc3.3.4 installation. Since the BLFSscripts look
for things in that rep so as to add them to the path, could it have possibly
been used instead of the one installed during the lfs process ? I'm not sure
about this, because before I chrooted to my new environment when the static
compile was done, I've moved away both /root/.bash_profile and /etc/profile,
so that nothing was set up other than what was required.
Thanks for your advices and your help. I still look forward to solve this
problem, because I *really* need this KDE on my laptop !
