Although, I'm a fan of the dectalk voices and have a licence to use the linux port. I'm trying lfs because of thelearning primarily but also because gnopericus and other access utils such as orca seem to be difficult on debian systems. Speakup users have recently been introduced to espeak which is a plessant English voice synth. I'm a long way to getting such engines working with gnopernicus. It does appear that the developement of gnopernicus has seriously slowed down if not stopped. Plenty of things to play with, I guess!
Looks like gnopernicus-1.1.0 was just released yesterday (2006-06-23). Orca-0.2.4 was just released a week or so ago (2006-06-15). Both of them seem to use on gnome-speech and brltty. So, it looks like you've got a couple options if you go with the gnome desktop (when you get that far). -- Dan -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
