Firstly are you running vmware workstation on a lfs box? If so this might help: 1) Try installing the vmtools package (it's in one of the vmware menus) 2) Does the host machines audio work properly? maybe you need to adjust groups etc. 3) The best thing to do here is bridge your vm connection to your hosts connection.
