Joe put that perl patch into the CLFS book yesterday, so hopefully we'll have less of these problems in future (/me goes off to remove the if [ $ARCH == x86_64 ]; then --no-perl constructs from his blfs scripts).
More generally, for non-x86 we can put notes in the blfs wiki, but only where the pages have been set up.
