I don't use the insert key any more (my keyboard wore out, and it isn't obvious where it's located on the new one - the keys that are normally between the main alpha keys and the numeric pad are scattered around the edges of the main alpha pad). Does it work if you boot the new system instead of running in a chroot ? Do the rest of the keys, particularly any dead keys, work as expected ?
