Expat is a dependency of Fontconfig, which is required for Xorg. So,
you should already have Expat if you've been following the book.
Oh yes, you are right. I have forgotten... Sorry.
We try pretty hard to make it so that you can get the order right on
the packages. Occasionally things are missed, but you should be able
to get a working system if you follow the Required and Recommended
Dependencies.
I know. When I started building BLFS for the first time (now it is my
second try) I followed step by step the book, like at the LFS stage.
But soon I get lost in dependencies and had to start again. Well, nat
had to, but I decided to.
Now, before installing anything I am trying to decide which package do I
really need, and then I am trying to complete dependencies.
Many dependencies are common. Some packages, which are optional give
some additional features, tools etc. So I am trying to figure out if
that package is required or recommended for any other package I want to
install.
So this way I am trying to figure out what to install first.
Is this the right way?
