The version of Pango in the current svn blfs book will cause the above

According to some googling, this was fixed some time ago in Pango. The
error is because some Deja fonts have an empty GPOS table. This is
apparently a perfectly acceptable condition. So Pango was simply
modified to stop producing the error message.

Interesting. On a somewhat related note, according to Keith Packard,
the DejaVu fonts are missing some hinting on some of their fonts. So,
in the new version of Fontconfig, Bitstream Vera is still the
preferred font above DejaVu. Apparently this works in general since it
will fall back to DejaVu for all the languages that DejaVu doesn't
provide for. I've been meaning to install the Bitstream fonts and try
out that configuration.
