I did something similar recently lol. I hope this works for you... Firstly, DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO THIS DISK UNTILL YOU MAKE A BACKUP it would be a VERY good idea if you could borrow an iPod of a friend or something. Otherwise, you could probably do something over a network. Do something like this on a livecd dd if=/dev/hda of=/mnt/ipod/a_file or use a network share for of if you have to. Oh and btw i hope your disk is pretty small... Now... First, you'll need BartPE, which is basically a windows liveCD. You'll need an existing windows instalation handy somewhere though. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ Boot BartPE, then run this from a floppy or something... http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/TestDisk-Download-20124.html It should help you recreate your partition table Hope that works KJ

Hi there, I have made a stupid mistake and hope not all is lost... I had installed a working lfs-6.2 with lots of blfs programs installed... But I had to install Win XP pro aswell, I wanted a dual boot. But windows kept hanging just after boot up from cd. I figured it was something with the way linux partions the disk. So I accidentily gave the following command from LFS... : dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1 And Yes the bootup from the windows cd worked... But I discovered all partions were gone so I broke off the installation of Win XP. My partition table was something like this: /dev/hda1 /boot (16 MB) /dev/hda2 (supposed to become windows) (6GB) /dev/hda3 Swap (512 MB) /dev/hda4 (extended) /dev/hda5 / (4GB) /dev/hda6 /home (256MB) /dev/hda7 / (of second installation 4GB) /dev/hda8 /usr/src (also second installation 8GB) /dev/hda9 /storage (3GB) It was all on my laptop. So i dont have some way to interface my disk to mij desktop computer. I do not have a external usb disk as well. So I wonder if it is possible te retrieve some parts of the disk onto other parts of the disk. I would like to restore /dev/hda9 and /dev/hda5 If someone knows how to do this, preferrebly with the LFS-live cd. I would love to know Thanks already Herman Gerritsen -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
