Dear sir/madam,

I have created a bootable cd using an initrd and have installed X Window and
Xfce. I want to acheieve a stage where the GUI settings will be generic and
work with most graphics cards and output devices.

I have configured the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and given most if not all the
variables a generic value. I made a comparism with the Live CD 6.2 file and
they are virtually identical. I found however, that the Live cd 6.2 works with
systems which my cd does not regarding the startx command. What else do I need
to look for?

I suspect that the Kernel will need recompiling. What values should I alter in
the Kernel configuration which will make the graphics settings truly generic on
multiple x86 platforms with differing graphics cards. >From my investigation,
Raidion and ati crads work but Geforce does not.

Thanks in advance

Kevin
